A few months ago I was commissioned by RareInk, a company joining fine art and recording artists for charitable causes, to create an illustration of Ice Cube for their initial launch. The opportunity was of interest to me since Ice Cube’s music had been part of the soundtrack to my formative teenage years. I remember a friend of mine letting me borrow the cassette of Amerikkka’s Most around 8th grade. …I think I still have it.
The illustration I created was assisted by an amazing portrait taken by photographer, Joaquin Palting. My goal was to emphasize the energy captured in the photo and in Cube’s music.
On May 16th, Cube and I signed the full print edition in LA. RareInk has done an exceptional job with the care and craftsmanship of the work. Each print is signed, embossed, and certified. They even include a DVD with each print, featuring footage of the signing (view below).
A portion of the proceeds from each sale are donated to the Minority AIDS Project (MAP).
